2 days tour entirely on the south-western side of Etna off the beaten paths.
Day 1. Departure from Milia in the early afternoon to reach the Santa Barbara mountain refuge. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2. Departure before dawn to face the long way up that will lead you to the base of the summit craters. Depending on the volcano activity, arrival at the top of the Central Crater to enjoy the crater gullies view and the panorama below. Descent along the fracture of 1789 and 1610 that hosts the famous cave of the arches. Return to the accommodation in the evening.

The Etna from South to North: the two Etna calderas
Two days tour that allows the observation of the two opposite and heterogeneous sides of the volcano.
Day 1. Departure from the base point of Rifugio Santa Barbara before dawn.
Once reached the summit area, dinner and overnight stay in tent in the caldera of Piano (eruption of 122BC).

(according to the physical conditions of the participants, possibility to go by the Etna cable car for the ascent).
Day 2. Depending on the volcanic conditions, ascent at dawn to the Central Crater to observe the light of the new day through the volcanic gases and descent on the northern slope towards the Piano delle Concazze. Descent from the edge of the Ellittico caldera through fantastic gullies covered with volcanic ash towards Rifugio Citelli.
Aperitif and return to the accommodation.

Ascent to the Central Crater

Ascent to the area of Torre del Filosofo at the base of the Summit Craters, from the South West slope. From here, an hour and half’s uphill walk will take us to the Central Crater from which we can admire the Voragine and the Bocca Nuova, respectively formed in 1945 and 1968.
